BSI Re-secures Marks & Spencer Contract
28 January 2009
Marks & Spencer, one of the UK’s leading retailers, has re-appointed BSI as the sole provider of its accommodation requirements, following an agency tender between four short-listed companies.
BSI was the only accommodation specialist provider short-listed from an original list of 9 companies who were invited to tender and the agency will now continue to manage Marks & Spencer’s international and domestic accommodation expenditure, having originally won the contract in 2000.
As well as very competitive tender submission, the contract was awarded to BSI based on the company’s excellent levels of service provision resulting in increasing policy compliance levels to 96% in the period of 2007-08 and a UK average rate decrease in the period of 2004 – 2007.
Another key differentiator for BSI is their ongoing effective management of the Marks and Spencer internal corporate housing, Rooms@MarbleArch (RAMA) in London. BSI has actively driven cost avoidance and optimised hotel savings for the retailer by raising RAMA’s the low occupancy levels from 54% in 1999 to a high of 89% in 2007.
BSIDirect™, BSI’s online self-booking tool will shortly be implemented by Marks & Spencer in order to support the drive for increased policy compliance and reduction in transactional costs. BSI’s innovative, end-to-end technological solutions also give them the ability to provide joined up solutions with Travel Management Companies meaning that partnering with TMCs can be seamless for clients wishing to use a TMC.
Marks & Spencer will derive further controls of expenditure from BSI’s other areas of expertise, including meetings and event management solutions and a specialist operational business unit providing alternative solutions for long-stay requirements including serviced apartments.
Sejul Shah, Procurement Manager for Marks & Spencer, commented: “We have worked with BSI since 2000 and have been impressed by their high levels of service and the strength of their strategic Account Management team. As well as a very comprehensive and competitive tender, experience tells us that BSI can deliver on their promises and we therefore feel confident that they can continue to deliver a top quality service under this new contract.”
BSI’s Group Managing Director, Trevor Elswood said: “It is always rewarding for BSI to be recognised by our clients for our flexible approach and ability to evolve to suit their needs. We are delighted to be able to carry on our work with Marks & Spencer, and to continue to bring them immediate and long term savings through higher levels of policy compliance and sustainable contract negotiations with hotels.”
