BSI’s documented Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plan encompass various contingencies to ensure a continued service in the event of a disaster scenario including the necessity to relocate service provision from the usual service centres.
In summary, BSI’s business continuity plan incorporates:
- Nominated multi-discipline DR Committee with every role having a primary and secondary designate
- Overview plan and supporting resource packs available to authorised personnel at www.bsidr.co.uk
- Ability to switch in-bound calls to alternative BSI offices
- Ability to relocate service provision in the short-term, complete with telephony and systems infrastructure already in place, through reciprocal business continuity plans with local businesses and accommodation providers
- Ability to relocate service provision in the longer-term, through allocated floor space in alternate BSI offices
- Server replication for critical systems across multiple BSI sites
- Ability to switch to manual booking process in the event of system outage
- Online booking functionality available to all customers
- Crisis management team in place to handle demand surges due to emergency scenarios such as security alerts and adverse weather conditions
- Operationally trained personnel from non-critical functions to handle demand during periods of significant staff absenteeism, for example pandemics
- IT infrastructure in place to permit home-working in cases where a pandemic threatens to further affect staffing levels
- 24 hour IT support call-out and infrastructure in place to enable IT personnel to work remotely
- Full system recovery delivered through replicated off-site servers
